Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium was initially introduced in April 2011.  The Pupil Premium is a sum of money allocated to schools to close the attainment gap between those eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers. The Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding and it will be used by Sunnyside Primary Academy to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it the most.

Eligibility for Pupil Premium for 2012-2013 was extended to pupils who have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the last six years. This is known as the “Ever 6 Free School Meals measure”.

Our Key Objectives for Pupil Premium

  • The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils.
  • The funding will be used to narrow and close the gap between the achievement of these pupils and their peers.
  • We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives.

Accountability

  • The Principal, Deputy Principal and the Senior Leadership Team will regularly and rigorously monitor, evaluate and review the strategies we have put into place of Pupil Premium.

Strategies for utilising the funding

Sunnyside Primary Academy has identified the needs of those pupils entitled to Pupil Premium and have decided to use the following strategies:

  • Providing small group intervention for pupils entitled to Pupil Premium focused on overcoming gaps in learning to help them to make improved progress and to raise their standards of achievement and attainment.
  • 1:1 targeted intervention for pupils entitled to Pupil Premium funding to  help them to make improved progress and to raise their standards of achievement.
  • Additional teaching and learning opportunities for pupils entitled to Pupil Premium funding provided the employment of additional teachers, trained LSAs and external agencies.

All of our work through the Pupil Premium will be aimed at accelerating progress, ensuring pupils entitled to Pupil Premium funding achieve at least age related expectations in reading, writing and maths.

Statistics

For this financial year, the sum allocated is calculated based on the number of pupils currently in school eligible for FSM and also for those who have received FSM in the past six years.
